November 1977...
Alongside W Hall celebrating 40 years in business, we also see the LEGO Group celebrate 40 years of their Technical Set. Jan Ryaa began working on his larger LEGO design ideas in the early 1970’s, soon meeting Erik Batch who was also trying new ideas with LEGO. Batch and Ryaa began working together to create larger Lego products such as cars and tractors. Eventually the two engineers split, leaving Jan Ryaa to continue making LEGO models. LEGO technic models continue to be a massive success, with many of the collections being sought after for large amounts as collector pieces.
On November 15th of 1977, Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip, Duke of Edinburgh, welcomed their first grandchild. Their daughter, Princess Anne, welcomed a healthy baby boy, going on to name him Master Phillips. Master Phillips was to break a 500-year tradition, he became the first royal baby to be born a ‘commoner’. Master Phillips is now 13th in line of succession to the British Throne.
1977 seen Abba dominating the music world. ‘Name of the Game’ spent 4 weeks at number 1 in the UK music charts and continued in the top 100 for a further 8 weeks, giving it a good run of 12 weeks in the U.K music chart in November 1977.
